Aby was 16 when she decided to join TECHO . It wasn’t a planned decision, but rather a curiosity sparked by an invitation: her best friend convinced her to participate in a fundraising campaign organized by their high school. What began as an opportunity to spend time together turned into an experience that completely transformed her life.
At that time, Aby’s life was routine. Every day, she focused on her high school studies, with no major surprises or challenges outside her comfort zone. But everything changed when she entered the world of volunteer work. The fundraiser was her first step into that world—a chance to get a feel for the environment and begin to understand the importance of getting involved in social causes.

“I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I hadn’t started volunteering,” she admits. TECHO gave TECHO something she didn’t know she was looking for: the certainty that she could do something to change reality. Instead of dwelling on the frustration that inequalities persist, Aby decided to be part of the change.
Her experience allowed her to step outside the bubble she had been living in, confront new realities, and develop a sensitivity that shapes both her personal and professional life. Now, as a psychology student, she recognizes that TECHO provided TECHO with essential tools: active listening, empathy, and leadership skills.
What she values most about her time at TECHO the connections she has made. For her, the people she has met over the years represent a home—a support network that always makes her feel supported.
If I hadn't signed up for TECHO, I wouldn't have discovered my ability to lead, nor would I have broken through the barriers I had set for myself. Aby not only found a sense of purpose through volunteering, but also found a place where she could grow and be part of the change.
