There are people willing to change this reality. More than 1.7 million young people have already joined TECHO volunteer program.

Recognizing that informal settlements are a reflection of inequality in Latin America, TECHO from a youth movement driven by the conviction that this reality can be overcome through volunteer action.

The Reality of Settlements in Latin America*

SEWER SYSTEM

One out of every two people in the region does not have access to the sewer system.

ELECTRICITY

One out of every three settlements (36.7%) does not have a formal electricity connection.

WATER

One in every two people in settlements does not have access to drinking water.

LAND OWNERSHIP

Three out of every four settlements (75.4%) have irregular land tenure.

EVICTION

One in five settlements (20.3%) is at high risk of eviction.

Open Data Platform

We publish the results of our research for public use, providing georeferenced information and the socioterritorial characteristics of low-income settlements.

 

Through the use of technology and participatory methodologies, we seek to contribute to the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of public policies and social programs in an open and transparent manner.
