I'M INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING

How can I volunteer with TECHO?

Sign up on your country’s website, or contact your TECHO office. If you don’t have time to volunteer but still want to help, you can become a member and make a donation. Go to“GETINVOLVED”tolearn more.

If you agree to a commitment, TECHO you to approach it with honesty and professionalism, fulfilling all the obligations you undertake. That is why, at TECHO volunteer based on your availability and interests.

Anyone who wishes to can volunteer with TECHO, but our focus is on young people, which is why we run volunteer recruitment campaigns in high schools, universities, and technical schools. At TECHO, everyone can participate without discrimination, regardless of their faith, background, culture, or political or sexual orientation.

TECHO the same as “A Techo My Country”?

Yes. Until 2012, we were Un Techo Mi País. That year, we went through a process of redefining our vision, mission, and new approaches to our work in settlements, culminating in a name change and a new brand identity.

The poverty faced by more than 114 million people living in low-income settlements is an ongoing emergency. That is why we build emergency housing. However, this is only one part of a more comprehensive effort that involves young volunteers and the settlement community. Learn more under“WHAT WE DO”

At TECHO a settlement as a group of at least 8 families living together or in close proximity, where more than half of the population does not have a land title or regular access to at least two of the following basic services: runningwater , electricity with a household meter, and/or a system for the disposal of human waste through the regular sewer system. TECHO in Chile in 1997, based on the work of a group of young people supported by a Jesuit priest. When the decision was made to formalize this project as a foundation, the Jesuits of Chile provided legal and financial support for the initiative.

The Jesuits are a congregation of the Catholic Church that continues to support this project through the presence of the chaplain who chairs the board of directors TECHO Chile. His role is to promote fundamental values such as diversity, the institution’s non-denominational nature, youth leadership, and its primary focus on working for and with the most marginalized families.

One of TECHO core values TECHO diversity; therefore, everyone—regardless of their background, faith, gender, sexual orientation, or economic status—is welcome to join TECHO.

No. TECHO a nonpartisan organization, and through the work of volunteers and residents of informal settlements, it seeks to engage in politics and advocate for change, with the goal of improving the conditions of poverty in which millions of people in the region live.

I AM A RESIDENT OF A COMMUNITY SETTLEMENT

Who is eligible for the programs offered by TECHO?

All families living in informal settlements who wish to work with TECHO access, propose, and participate in the programs offered through the organization’s intervention model. To find out if TECHO in your informal settlement or city, please contact the office in your country.

Families in the settlements are involved from the very beginning of our work, as they organize themselves to ensure that TECHO working alongside them. This process ranges from assessing the community’s characteristics to launching community programs and projects and jointly managing solutions to their needs.​​
