“Mi idea es la siguiente, firmaré la guitarra Martin y me grabaré tocando Wish you Were Here con ella, para que después rematen la guitarra y el video al mejor postor. Estas familias no pueden seguir viviendo así”.

Con estas palabras, conducidas a  Hernán Rojas, Conductor de Radio Futuro, el cerebro de Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, respondió a la solicitud de TECHO- Chile de donar algún artículo para el remate que realizarán en la comida institucional este 21 de noviembre a las 20:00 hrs en el Club Hípico.

¿El objetivo? Juntar los fondos para erradicar el campamento San Gabriel ubicado en el Cajón del Maipo, y así construir el proyecto de vivienda definitiva para las 120 familias del Comité “Quebradas del Maipo”.

La iniciativa nació de voluntarios del Techo en Chile, motivados principalmente por el tiempo que las familias llevan esperando una vivienda digna, considerando que si bien existe un diseño desarrollado por el Área de Vivienda Definitiva de la fundación que contempla altos estándares de construcción para soportar las intensas condiciones climáticas durante el invierno, todavía no existen los fondos para financiar completamente la adquisición del terreno y la construcción de las 120 casas.

La guitarra donada por Waters y con la que grabó una edición especial de Wish you Were Here, incluye un DVD con la filmación de ese momento. Desde el jueves 15 de noviembre ya se puede comenzar a ofertar en el sitio web de Radio Futuro donde la exclusiva pieza parte con un piso mínimo de 2,5 millones de pesos chilenos o 5 mil dólares estadounidenses en caso de que los ofertantes sean extranjeros.

El cierre de las ofertas vía internet es el miércoles 21 de noviembre a las 11:00 hrs. Las cinco ofertas más altas tendrán el derecho de ir a la comida institucional de TECHO-Chile para el remate final. En caso de que los ofertantes sean extranjeros, se conectarán durante la comida en tiempo real para poder hacer sus ofertas y así adjudicarse la guitarra.

“My idea is this. I sign a Martin Acoustic Guitar, then I make a video singing Wish You Were Here, followed by words stating that those families cannot continue living in extreme poverty. Then I send the signed guitar and the DVD, so that they can be auctioned at the event to the highest bidder”.

With those words, Roger Waters answered a mail directed to Hernan Rojas, on Radio Futuro, (88,9 FM in Santiago, Chile) regarding a request to help the Non Profit Organization “TECHO-Chile” with a personal object that could be auctioned at the Charity Dinner that will take place on the 21st of November in the Club Hípico de Santiago, Chile. .

The objective is to raise money that will help 120 families that live in extreme poverty in a slum located on the outskirts of Santiago, Chile, on a high inhospitable mountain range. For more than 15 years, these families have dreamed of their own house with basic utilities (light, water and a sewage system), to increase their quality of life and dignity.

The five biggest bids will access the final bidding at the event on the 21st of November. In case one or more of those offers were made by foreign bidders, they will have the chance to be connected in real time to make their offers during the final auction.

This is not the first time that Roger Waters collaborates with TECHO-Chile. Six days after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Chile in February of 2010, he sent an open letter to Hernan Rojas stating his views on how nations should address disaster relief, not as a charity emergency action, but with a global strategy of reducing expenses on arms. He followed the letter with a financial donation equivalent to 300 basic housing solutions.
