As part of the 24th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government and the celebrations for International Volunteer Day, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) signed a Framework Agreement on Cooperation with TECHO.
The agreement was signed by AMEXCID Executive Director Juan Manuel Valle Pereña and TECHO Regional Director TECHO Mexico and the Caribbean, Luis Bonilla. The project, which is part of the Ibero-American Conference, is calledTecho: Youth for an Ibero-America Without Poverty” and was approved at the 20th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government in Mar del Plata in 2010. To date, twenty-one countries, including Mexico, are participating in the initiative.
The objective of the Agreement is to establish a strategic partnership for international cooperation, which will result in the implementation of projects aimed at overcoming poverty in various areas—such as housing and livability, social and economic development, and the promotion of community capacities, among others—inLatin America and the Caribbean. In particular, this will be achieved through a Volunteer Program for Mexican Youth.
With the signing of this agreement, Mexico will launch its first Mexican Youth Volunteer Program in 2015, with activities taking place in Central America and the Caribbean, while strengthening and expanding ties of friendship and cooperation with the peoples of that region.
Luis Bonilla, as part of the group of projects affiliated with SEGIB, spoke at one of the panel discussions, emphasizing the role that volunteerism plays in building less unequal societies.
