From April 5 through April 11, TECHO its experience in human settlements through a presentation and a workshop at the 7thWorld Urban Forum, in collaboration with the UN Global Compact Cities Program .

“Urban Equity in Development: Cities for Life” will be the central theme of the event, which is held every two years in a different city and will be hosted this time by Medellín. This perspective places cities at the center, as the core of integration and access to more just societies.

TECHO the progress it has made over the past 17 years in its efforts to combat poverty on the continent, as part of the event organized by UN-Habitat. Drawing on specific cases, sharing the experiences and lessons learned from the Chilean model and how it has been adapted to the local contexts of Argentina and Uruguay The organization seeks to strengthen the integration of the needs and opportunities that arise from the communities, as reflected in projects that provide permanent solutions for informal settlements, which facilitate integration into the city and improve quality of life.

The discussion will address the most pressing issues facing the world today within human settlements, such as their rapid growth and the impact on cities, communities, economies, climate change, and policies. Based on these issues, the discussion will bring together national, regional, and local governments, as well as nongovernmental organizations focused on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

Highlights of the Forum

1 Exhibition April 5–11 at Plaza Mayor, Booth 65, Blue Pavilion: Through its booth, the organization will showcase its work with residents of settlements, promoting innovative and participatory solutions that help overcome poverty.

2. Wednesday, April 9 – 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., Urban Library – “Socio-Territorial Integration of Informal Settlements in Latin America”: How can we achieve more equitable cities on a continent where 110 million people live in informal settlements?  This session aims to share the results of this work, as reflected in projects offering permanent solutions for informal settlements, and to discuss how these solutions foster greater integration into the city and a better quality of life within the settlements themselves.

3. Friday, April 11 – 8:30–11:30 a.m., Red Pavilion, Room 23 – Training event “Raising Awareness of Informal Settlements Through Participatory Methods of Territorial Data Collection”: This session will present an overview of the conceptual and methodological foundations for conducting territorial data collection in informal settlements, drawing on TECHO experience TECHO the countries where it works on territorial research issues, and highlighting its strategies, achievements, and expected outcomes.

Permanent housing solutions are achieved through the collaborative efforts of governments and other entities, including nonprofit organizations.From April 5 through 15, TECHO present and lead a workshop at the7th World Urban Forum(WUF) to provide context for the experience we have gained through our work in slums across Latin America. The WUF, a biennial event held in various cities around the world, is part ofthe Cities Program of the UN Global Compact.

This year’s WUF, to be held in Medellín, is titled “Equality in Urban Development: Cities for Life” and will place cities at the center of the debate on global integration, promoting them as essential to the creation of the most just societies.

During the workshop, organized in partnership with UN-Habitat,TECHO present the progress the organization has made in combating poverty across the region over the past 17 years. TECHO draw on specific case studies from Chile and will also discuss how the organization has adapted its urban development model to ensure its relevance to the local contexts of Argentina and Uruguay. TECHO to strengthen the integration of community needs and opportunities and provide permanent solutions in informal settlements, enabling these communities to integrate into cities and improve their quality of life.

During the WUF, discussions will focus on the most pressing issues facing the sustainable development of urban settlements, including issues related to rapid urban growth and its impact on cities, communities, economies, climate change, and policies. By addressing these issues and drawing on the experience and participation of national, regional, and local governments and nongovernmental organizations, conclusions will be reached regarding the direction of the post-2015 agenda.
