TETO (known as TECHO Brazil) was named the best local development NGO in Brazil by the “Best NGOs” award, an initiative of the Doar Institute and the Filantropia Network. The awards were created to recognize philanthropic organizations that stand out for their work toward a better society through sound management practices and transparency, evaluating their administrative, accounting, financial, and communication processes. This process selects the top 100 from among the more than 800,000 institutions operating in the country.
In total, more than 1,700 organizations were registered for the awards ceremony, which took place at the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo on Thursday, November 1.
In 2017, TETO Brasil built 456 emergency housing units, worked with more than 1,300 residents of informal settlements, and mobilized more than 11,000 volunteers from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Paraná, and Minas Gerais. “Being part of this leading group in the third sector is a reward for our efforts toward transparency and excellence in management. It is essential to recognize social organizations as professional and responsible institutions, as key players in our country’s development,” said Nina Scheliga, Executive Director of TETO.
